Private lessons are provided onsite at Clifton Hill Primary School. Please contact teachers directly to ascertain availability.


Ross Henderson teaches at Clifton Hill Primary School on Mondays and Tuesdays. Students are taught during class time or recess and lunch.

Ross Henderson - Violin Teacher

Since completing a Bachelor of Music Degree at the University of Canterbury majoring in performance and musicology, Ross has travelled widely, living in Japan and the United Kingdom before settling in Melbourne in 2007. With over fifteen years' experience teaching the violin both in schools and privately, Ross has had successful candidates in Royal School of Music, Trinity College of Music, and Australian Music Examinations Board exams. He has also had a student accepted into The Glenn Gould School of Music in Toronto.

Russell Bratton provides guitar lessons during class time and at recess and lunch. He has been teaching at Clifton Hill for 7 years and is a very skilled guitarist and teacher.

Russell has been playing for over 30 years. His music has been featured on LightFM, ABC Radio with Derrick Gille, ABC Radio Ballarat, Yarra ValleyFM, and the "Guitar Show" on PBS. He began learning rock and blues by ear, then learned classical before studying music at the University of North Texas. Russell has been teaching in Melbourne schools for 10 years. Some of his students are now pursuing careers in music.

Brass and Woodwind

Zac O'Connell

Zac O’Connell teaches woodwind at CHPS. (Flute, clarinet, saxophone) He has a Bachelor of Music from Monash University and a Diploma from the James Morrison Academy. He has been teaching at CHPS since 2017 however has a long association with the school as he is a former student.

Callum Mintzis – Brass Teacher

Callum is currently undertaking his Bachelor of Music in jazz trombone at Monash University and has been teaching brass around Melbourne for 3 years. He has been the recipient of the Pat Corrigan Award, the Brian Brown Jazz Award, the Geoffrey Whitelaw Brass Scholarship, the Allan Zavod Runner Up Award, and was nominated as a finalist for the prestigious 2018 James Morrison Scholarship. He has performed alongside James Morrison, Julien Wilson, Patti Austin, Terri-Lyne Carrington, Linda Oh and many others.
